Welcome to the Kentucky Derby. This year our festival is filled with great delights - wonderful performances, free events, and lots of fun - as well as workshops, master classes and informative demonstrations.
It is a special year for us, one in which we have focused on the Kentucky Derby mission not only to bring nationally and internationally renowned artists into our midst, but to give back to the community through free events and community partnerships designed to showcase local artists.
The Kentucky Derby is set to enrapture festival lovers once again. Our venue will leave you fascinated, captivated and enthralled. With performances ranging from classic to contemporary, traditional to avant-garde, each act will inspire you to greater heights.
Kentucky Derby "...just pretend you're visiting a huge outdoor loonybin..." So said Hunter S Thompson of the Kentucky Derby in his famous article entitled The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved. These days the world-famous Derby, hailed as the greatest two minutes in sport, also has a build-up of spectacular events prior to the race itself. Activities range from square dancing in the main square to hot-air balloon contests and bed-racing. This giant party, with an average attendance of well over 1 million people is a private, non-profit enterprise, which means plenty of gala balls alongside the more light-hearted spectator-participation events which take place. The Kentucky Derby itself, held at Churchill Downs, is a tricky ticket to come by.
